The Tiffin University baseball team opened with a tall order in the form of #14 Mercyhurst on Sunday afternoon. The Lakers were able to edge the Dragons 3-0, using nine hits to do so.

Tiffin starter Luke Fraley knew he had his work cut out for him, but that didn't intimidate him. The senior held the Lakers scoreless for the first two innings, but did allow a single run on three hits in the bottom of the 3rd inning.

Mercyhurst added two more runs over the course of the game, chasing starter Luke Fraley from the game after six innings of work. Fraley allowed three earned runs on eight hits while striking out four. Youngster Michael Sarpa shined in his debut on the mound for Tiffin, striking out three of the four batters he faced in relief.

Offensively the Dragons managed only two hits against one of the best pitching staffs in the nation. Brayden Callihan and Kyle Vance were the two Dragons to reach via a hit, and for the game Tiffin managed to put six base runners aboard.

Fraley took the loss on the mound, striking out four while walking two. Kyle Vance finished 1 for 3 and Brayden Callihan finished 1 for 4.

The Dragons will be right back on the field tomorrow afternoon, playing Ohio Dominican in a double header at Prasco Park.
