Dragons drop two at start of spring trip

Tiffin University (0-7) had a tough start to their Florida spring trip, falling to Gannon 5-0 before losing to Michigan-Dearborn 3-2 in 8 innings.

Tiffin's best chances came against UMD. Samantha Ringwaltdrilled a home run in the second inning to give TU a 1-0 lead. But UMD rallied for two runs in the fifth inning after two TU errors in the inning.

Lindsay Graves got TU back to 2-2 on the scoreboard when she singled in the 6th inning, moved up to second base on a wild pitch, then advanced to third on a foul out to left field. She then came in to score on a ground out to third by Gabrielle Hess

In the 8th inning, playing international rules, the Dragons eventually had two runners reach second base in the inning but could get neither runner home. UMD then won the game in the bottom of the inning when they advanced their runner from second to third on a sacrifice and then scampered home on a wild pitch.

TU, which committed 3 errors in the game, was led byLibby Crow's 2 hits. Ringwalt had a home run and RBI while Hess added the other RBI. Tiffany Snell took the loss, pitching 7.1 innings and allowing just 4 hits and one earned run with 3 strikeouts and 3 walks.

In TU's game with Gannon, the Dragons loaded the bases in the first inning with no outs but could not get anyone home after hitting into a double play and a pop out. After the first inning, the Dragons managed only one more hit the rest of the way.

Trailing 1-0 in the 4th inning, two TU errors led to 3 runs crossing the plate, two unearned. Overall TU had just 4 hits, 2 of them by Kate-Lynn Urgo. Crow and Jamie Sevenish also had singles.

Kimmy Reynolds took the loss, allowing 3 earned runs over 7 innings on 9 hits with 7 strikeouts.
