Wuebker's Late Bucket Leads Oilers to 74-72 Win Over Eagles

Box Score

The University of Findlay women's basketball team hung on for a 74-72 win over Ashland University on Feb. 12 in Croy Gymnasium. The victory gives the Oilers a 12-10 record on the season with an 8-10 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

The Oilers held a 72-60 lead with only 3:33 to play in the game, but the Eagles rallied back with a 12-0 run to tie the game at 72-72 with 53 seconds left. After a failed possession by both teams, the Oilers called timeout with 15 seconds to play. Senior guard Kristin Klausing then penetrated and found junior forward Margaret Wuebker, who missed a contested shot underneath. Wuebker then grabbed her own miss and as she was falling down, got the ball to go into the basket for the game-winning field goal.

Findlay shot 46.8 percent (29-of-62) from the floor and canned 8-of-20 (40%) shot attempts from three point range. They also forced 25 turnovers and came away with 13 steals in the victory.

Wuebker led the team with 16 points and nine rebounds in 21 minutes of action while sophomore guard Karli Bonar had 15 points and three steals on the strength of a 5-for-6 showing from long range.

Freshman guard Haley Horstman nearly reached double figures with nine points while senior guard Ciara Geiger stuffed the stat sheet with nine points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Senior guard Nikki Gunning and senior forward Lacey Kessler each provided eight points off the bench for Findlay as well.

The Eagles, who shot 53.8 percent (28-of-52) from the floor, were led by Suzy Wollenaupt's 17 points.

The Oilers will be back at home on Saturday to host Lake Erie College at 1 p.m. in Croy Gymnasium.
