Capturing its fifth straight GLIAC win, the Malone University volleyball team posted a 27-25, 25-27, 25-18, 25-16 victory over visiting Ashland University on Saturday afternoon in Malone's Osborne Hall.
With the win, which was the Pioneers' eighth GLIAC victory in their last nine attempts, Malone improved to 11-12 overall and to 8-5 in the GLIAC while the Eagles fell to 6-14 overall and to 6-7 in conference play.
For Malone, outside hitter
Anna Hays paced the squad in kills for the second straight contest as she pounded down an impressive 18 kills while outside hitter
Sarah Brent was next with 13 kills. Outside hitter
Taylor Slauterbeck drilled nine kills while middle hitter
Elizabeth Maczuzak fired down eight. Setter
Jordan Sollars tallied 28 assists while fellow setter
Brianna Clegg dished out 22 more. In addition, Sollars posted an impressive five service aces in the match.
On the defensive side of things, Maczuzak recorded a team-high three solo blocks and two block assists while defensive specialist/libero
Katie Hasebein contributed a team-best 14 digs in the contest.
Malone will next compete in an away match at local rival Walsh University next Tuesday (Oct. 28th) in a 7:00 p.m. contest.
