The Malone University women's soccer team won a thrilling final home game Saturday night, ending the season with a 2-1 victory over Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) opponent Tiffin University.
The Dragons would be first to get on the scoreboard as they scored in the fifth minute of the first half to take an early 1-0 lead.
Malone tied things up in the 30th minute as
Christine Najjar drilled a header into the net off a pass from
Leah Arnold. The score would stay the same at intermission.
The mud and cold keep both teams on their toes throughout the afternoon. Both squads battled for possession in the second half before Najjar struck once more in the 82nd minute, heading the ball into the net again to give the hosts the 2-1 lead.
Darby Burch was credited with the assist.
Malone outshot the Dragons 27 to 14.
Goalie
Kari Naylor had four saves on the night. She finished the season with 95 saves.
Brianna Smith led the team this season with 16 points (seven goals, two assists).
Malone finished the season 3-13 overall and 2-10 in the GLIAC.
