YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Wayne State University women's tennis team (14-8 overall) lost to Division I opponent Eastern Michigan (12-4 overall) on Sunday, falling 4-1 at the Varsity Tennis Center.
DOUBLES RESULTS
The Warriors clinched the Division 1-rule doubles points with wins in the second and third flights. Seniors
Andreea Mitrache (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Warren Cousino) and
Liz Ghellere (Ararangua, Brazil) won 6-3 over Ani Gogvadze and Natalia Regalado at No. 2, while freshmen
Linda Liong (Tanjung Kidurong, Malaysia) and
Brianna Douglas (Dayton, Ohio / Chaminade Julienne) were victorious over Andrea Martinovska and Anna Veleva (6-1).
Junior
Dasha Kuznetsova (Moscow, Russia) and freshman
Khadija Da-Silva (Burlington, Ont. / Robert Batman S.S.) were down 5-4 to Marie Mayerova and Giuliana Ansaloni, but the match went unfinished due to the clinched point.
SINGLES RESULTS
Mitrache lost to Ani Gogvadze (6-3, 6-4) in the first flight. Kuznetsova was defeated by Veleva (6-3, 7-5) in the second flight. Da-Silva lost to Ansaloni in the third flight (6-4, 7-5), and Ghellere played at No. 4, losing 6-3, 6-1 to Martinovska.
Liong and Douglas played at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively, but both flights went unfinished.
UP NEXT
Wayne State will be off until April 7, playing in the IUP Tournament at the LaTuchie Tennis Center in Stow, Ohio. WSU will take on Wilmington in the first contest.
