LAKELAND, Fla. -- The Wayne State University men's tennis squad (4-7 overall) was defeated, 8-1, by Florida Southern in the Warriors' Spring Break trip finale on Tuesday afternoon at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center in Lakeland, Fla.
DOUBLES RESULTS - Sophomore
Harvey Reed (Winchester, England) and junior
Ryan Carlson (Armada, Mich.) earned the lone point for the Warriors after the pair topped Miguel Alvarez-Hevia and Laurent Mailloux, 8-4, at the second doubles flight.
- Freshman
Taylor Vane (Southampton, England) and junior
Clement Charriere (Marseille, France) were bested, 8-4, by Jose de Sario and Brian Slivonik at No. 1 doubles, while senior
Mohamed Fazyl Kechai (Paris, France) and freshman
Derek Sammons (Coldwater, Mich.) lost, 8-2, to Fabian Lundberg and Arthur Viallaneix at the third doubles position.
SINGLES RESULTS - Charriere was topped by de Sario, 7-5, 6-4, at the second singles flight, while Sammons was beat in two-sets (6-4, 6-2) by Viallaneix at the sixth singles position.
- Kechai lost, 6-3, 6-2, to Lundberg at No. 1 singles, and Vane fell in two sets, 6-2, 6-2, to Alvarez-Hevia at the third singles flight.
- Reed was defeated by Mailloux (6-1, 6-2) at the fourth singles position, while freshman
Nicholas Ang (Rochester, Mich.) was bested, 6-0, 6-1, by Slivonik at No. 5 singles.
UP NEXT- WSU will travel to Romeoville, Ill. to compete in the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover on March 24-26. Wayne State's first match is slated for 12 p.m. against Southern Indiana on Thursday (March 24).
