DETROIT — Wayne State turned 15 offensive rebounds into 21 second-chance points in a 77-64 victory over Michigan Tech in GLIAC men's basketball today. Tech (2-5, 1-3 GLIAC) held a nine-point lead in the opening half but couldn't hold off the Warriors (2-5, 2-2 GLIAC) on their home floor.

Jeff Gregory hit three 3-pointers in the opening seven minutes to put the Huskies up seven. The margin would grow to as many as nine as Jason Hawke scored a layup for a 38-29 advantage with 3:06 left in the half.

WSU answered with eight straight points to close within 38-27 at the intermission.

Tech went through another four-minute drought in the second half, allowing the Warriors to put together a 10-0 run for a 56-48 lead with 10:29 to play.

The margin hovered around 10 the rest of the way. Kyle Monroe's 3-pointer with 2:19 to go pulled Tech within 69-61, but the hosts scored the next four points to put the game away.

"It's frustrating," said Tech coach Kevin Luke. "We got drilled. We talked about second chance opportunities, and that's what killed us. We couldn't keep them off the glass, and we weren't very consistent."

Wayne State not only shot 56 percent from the floor, but held a 41-18 rebounding advantage. Tech shot 44 percent from the field including 10-of-23 from 3-point range.

Monroe totaled a team-high 19 points. Fellow freshman Bryan Heath added 15 points. Gregory finished with nine.

Michigan Tech will try to bounce back with a non-conference tilt at the SDC Gym on Saturday (Dec. 19). UW-Parkside will be the opponent for a 5 p.m. start.
