HAMMOND, Ind. – The Wayne State University men's tennis team (8-8 overall, 1-1 GLIAC) earned its first conference victory Sunday, defeating host Purdue Northwest (6-5 overall, 0-2 GLIAC) 7-2.

Griffin Mertz (Farmington Hills, Mich. / North Farmington), senior
Harvey Reed (Winchester, England), and sophomore
Jason Potter (Sterling Heights, Mich. / International Academy East) all earned two wins in the afternoon's contest.
Mertz paired with junior
Taylor Vane (Southampton, England) at the first doubles flight, earning an 8-2 win over Mortiz Gisy and Mauricio Villacres. In singles, he played at No. 3 and won 7-5, 6-2 over Leon Kah.
Reed and Potter paired up at the third doubles flight, winning 9-7 over Carter Moldenhaler and Dru Kennedy. Reed played the fourth flight, winning 6-1, 6-2 over Diego Pimentel. Potter was a 6-1, 7-6 champion over Moldenhauer at the sixth flight.
DOUBLES RESULTS
The Pride took the second flight, as freshman
Niklas Karcz (Bottrop, Germany) and sophomore
Derek Sammons (Coldwater, Mich.) were defeated 8-3 by Kah and Ulf Grosseloh.
SINGLES RESULTS
Karcz was a 6-3, 6-1 winner over Gisy in the second flight.
Sammons earned a 6-2, 6-3 win over Villacres at the fifth flight.
At the first flight, Vane fell 6-3, 6-2 to Grosseloh.
