The Tiffin University men's basketball team dropped an 83-72 decision to the Salem International University Tigers. The Dragons' defense allowed 44 2nd half points, with the Tigers hitting 54.2% of their field goal attempts.
The Dragons and Tigers were neck-and-neck throughout the 1st half, with the Tigers holding a slim 20-18 lead midway through the half. The teams remained within four points of each other for the rest of the half, as the Dragons' long range jumpers kept them in striking distance as Tiffin hit 5 of 13 three point attempts. Tiffin's defense struggled to cage the Tigers offense as Salem International hit 53.3% of their shot attempts in the half. With 54 seconds left, the Dragons were able to take a 38-36 lead with a Austin Adams' tip in. The lead was short-lived as the Tigers hit a go ahead trey with 39 seconds left to take a one point lead to the half.
Alex Brown was the go to guy for Tiffin's offense, connecting on 4 of 7 shot attempts to log 10 points in the half. Of Tiffin's 38 points in the opening half, only five came from the bench. The Dragons did a great job in securing the basketball, committing only six turnovers.
Alex Brown stayed hot as the 2nd half opened with a made three pointer to give Tiffin a 41-39 lead. The two sides traded the lead for the majority of the half, but the momentum swung decisively to the Tigers after a made layup at the 07:28 mark. The Tigers' lead grew to double digits at 74-64 at the 05:50 mark, and Salem International continued to add on, pushing their lead to its highest at 81-68 with just 47 seconds remaining as the Tigers downed the Dragons 83-72.
Alex Brown had a great game for Tiffin, hitting 9 of 17 field goal attempts and 3 of 6 three pointers. Alex filled the box score with 21 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Austin Adams scored 16 points and snagged a team high eight rebounds. Freshman guard Justin Miller finished with 11 points, hitting a pair of triples.
The Dragons fall to 1-2 overall and will take on Wright State University in an exhibition on Monday night.
