Tiffin University (1-1) got two first half goals and the defense made it stand up, as TU beat Illinois-Springfield 2-1 in their home opener at Paradiso Fields.

The Dragons got on the board early, as Abdoul Magid Sy took a cross from Scott Byrom and fired it right, hitting the post and bouncing across the goal into the net in the 14th minute.

The Dragons then added their second goal 40 seconds before halftime when Demba Dja came off the bench and knocked home a short cross from Alexander Wagener to put TU up 2-0 at the break.

The Dragons defense allowed UIS ample shots in the game but very little on goal until late in the game. The Prairie Stars did not get a shot on goal until the final 15 minutes but managed to get a goal with 33 seconds left on a short free kick in front of the goal by Rhys Wallace. The Prairie Stars tried to rally for a final shot, but Cary Wilson made a big save as time ran out to preserve the win.

Overall UIS outshot TU 12-9, while TU held UIS to just 4 shots on goal. Cary Wilson got the win in goal, making 3 saves.
