ASHLAND, Ohio-  In what took all of three-and-a-half hours, the Greyhound football came up on the short end of a 39-36 final at Ashland Saturday night.  The Eagles (1-1, 1-0 GLIAC) slipped by the visiting Greyhounds (1-1, 0-1) in quadruple overtime in what proved to be the longest game in program history.

After leading for nearly all of the first three quarters, UIndy found itself behind 17-13 after Ashland scored a touchdown with 14:07 left in the game.  The Eagles clung to their lead for the next 12 minutes until the Hounds finally broke through with their only score of the second half.

In what became somewhat of a theme for the UIndy offense Saturday night, sophomore quarterback Chris Mills found junior wideout Mar'Quone Edmonds on back-to-back plays late in the fourth  – one for 29 yards and one for 30, with the latter going for six points.  Freshman kicker Scott Miller, who also had a career night, tacked on the extra point to make it 20-17 Hounds with just 1:58 to go.

With the clock winding down and just a single timeout in its pocket, Ashland, who received votes in this week's Division II Coaches' Poll, drove to the UIndy 21-yard line and stopped the clock with just seven ticks remaining.  Preseason All-American kicker Gregg Berkshire, who missed from 31 yards out earlier in the game, was true from 38 yards to all but ensure overtime.

The teams traded touchdowns in the first overtime period, with UIndy's coming on a six-yard catch by Edmonds, his third of the game.

It was the place kickers that then took center stage, with Miller going toe-to-toe with his All-American counterpart.  Miller, a graduate of Cathedral High School, began the second OT with a 48 yarder.  The long kick had just enough leg, as it hit the crossbar and bounced through.

Berkshire answered with a 41-yarder to force a third overtime.  That period ended much the same of the second, this time with Miller connecting from 36 yards after Berkshire's 44-yard boot.

With the scoreboard reading 33-33, Miller again came through -- this time with a 39-yard kick.  It marked his fifth field goal of the night, good for a share of the Greyhounds' single-game record.

Berkshire's services would not be needed again, however, as the Eagles responded with an eight-yard TD run to walk off with the three-point win.

Edmonds finished with 13 catches for 168 yards and three touchdowns to set career bests in all three categories.  Other career highs including Mills' 28 completions and 342 passing yards, two-and-a-half tackles for a loss from Demetreius Wilson, and 238 punting yards from Aaron Puntarelli.

The Greyhounds return home next weekend to host perennial-powerhouse Grand Valley State.  Kickoff from Key Stadium is scheduled for 6 p.m. EDT, Saturday, Sep. 17.  Last September, the then-top-ranked Lakers escaped with a 38-31 win on their home field.
