Comeback Attempt Falls Short for Baseball

The Warriors lost to West Chester 6-4 on Wednesday.

AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- The Wayne State University baseball team (8-6) lost 6-4 to West Chester (7-3) on Wednesday morning.  The Warriors trailed 6-1 and cut the deficit to 6-4 but the comeback effort ran out if steam and the Golden Rams hung on for the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- WSU looked to strike first in the top of the first inning after a Devin Rose (Farmington Hills, Mich. / Orchard Lake St. Mary's) double.  He advanced to third but was stranded after consecutive pop-ups.  West Chester scored the game's first run in the bottom of the first inning aided by a WSU error.

-  The Rams scored five runs in the bottom of the third inning powered by two home runs, including a Grand Slam.  The Warriors' rally began with a run in the top of the fifth inning with an RBI groundout from Rose.  Griffin Harms (Bingham Farms, Mich. / Birmingham Groves) plated two runs with a double in the top of the eighth inning.  WSU ran out of time and WCU retired the Warriors in order during the top of the ninth inning.

AT THE PLATE
- Sean Winkelseth (Ypsilanti, Mich.) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while Harms collected his fourth multi-RBI game of the season.

ON THE MOUND
- Tyler Waldrop (Grand Ledge, Mich.) (1-1) allowed six runs (five earned) in seven hits and two walks in four and 2/3 innings.  He struck out five batters.  Brendan Wetmore (Westland, Mich. / John Glenn) was solid out of the bullpen, not allowing a run in three and 2/3 innings and struck out six batters.

UP NEXT
- WSU and Seton Hill will square off on Thursday at 4 p.m.
