AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- The Wayne State University baseball team (8-6) lost 6-4 to West Chester (7-3) on Wednesday morning. The Warriors trailed 6-1 and cut the deficit to 6-4 but the comeback effort ran out if steam and the Golden Rams hung on for the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- WSU looked to strike first in the top of the first inning after a
Devin Rose (Farmington Hills, Mich. / Orchard Lake St. Mary's) double. He advanced to third but was stranded after consecutive pop-ups. West Chester scored the game's first run in the bottom of the first inning aided by a WSU error.
- The Rams scored five runs in the bottom of the third inning powered by two home runs, including a Grand Slam. The Warriors' rally began with a run in the top of the fifth inning with an RBI groundout from Rose.
Griffin Harms (Bingham Farms, Mich. / Birmingham Groves) plated two runs with a double in the top of the eighth inning. WSU ran out of time and WCU retired the Warriors in order during the top of the ninth inning.
AT THE PLATE

Sean Winkelseth (Ypsilanti, Mich.) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while Harms collected his fourth multi-RBI game of the season.
ON THE MOUND

Tyler Waldrop (Grand Ledge, Mich.) (1-1) allowed six runs (five earned) in seven hits and two walks in four and 2/3 innings. He struck out five batters.
Brendan Wetmore (Westland, Mich. / John Glenn) was solid out of the bullpen, not allowing a run in three and 2/3 innings and struck out six batters.
