COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Wayne State University volleyball program (5-7, 1-2 GLIAC) won its second straight and first league match 3-2 on Friday night at Ohio Dominican (7-5, 2-1 GLIAC) by a combined score of 118-113. WSU dropped the opening set 25-14 but responded by winning sets two and three 27-25 and 30-28, respectively. ODU staved off defeat with a 25-18 win in the fourth set. The Warriors took set-five 15-10 to win the match.
HOW IT HAPPENED- The Panthers won the first five points of the first set and eventually led 16-5. The Panthers lead was extended to 23-10 before a 4-0 run, which included two kills from
Brittany Guldan (West Bloomfield, Mich. / Walled Lake Central), slowed the rally. ODU took the final two points and the the first set, 25-14.
- A kill from
Hannah Moore (Louisville, Ky. / Assumption) gave the Green & Gold a 6-5 advantage in the second set. A 7-1 run by the Panthers gave ODU a 12-7 lead. The momentum stayed with the home bench as ODU extended its lead to 22-19. However, kills from Moore,
Hailey Richardson (New Boston, Mich. / Huron) and a Panther attack error tied the set at 22-22. Tory Thompson put ODU up 24-23 with a kill but
Kelsey Bonewits (Griffith, Ind.),
Grace Frazee (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Grand Rapids Christian) and back-to-back kills from Moore gave the Warriors the victory, 27-25.
- Wayne State led 5-4 early in the third set. Later in the set, the Warriors went on a 6-0 run powered by two kills from Moore to give WSU a 13-8 lead. A Bonewits kill put WSU up 17-12 and a service ace from Richardson made it 21-16 later in the game. The third set was tied at 22-22 after a 6-1 ODU run. Wayne State trailed 24-23 but broke serve with an ace from Moore and took a 25-24 lead on another kill from Moore. Once again, the Panthers were a point away from the victory at 26-25 but WSU was able to stay alive and an
Ellie Rodriguez (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Catholic Central) service ace gave the Warriors the 30-28 victory.
- The Panthers led the fourth set 12-8 and it ballooned to 16-9 to force WSU to burn its final timeout of the game. Ohio Dominican controlled the rest of the set and forced a decisive fifth set with a 25-18 win.
- WSU led 5-3 in the final set after a kill from Guldan. An ace from Richardson put the Warriors on top 7-5 before the Panthers took an 8-7 lead after a 3-0 run. Four straight points swung the momentum back to the visitors. WSU ended the set on an 8-2 run to capture its first GLIAC win of the season, 15-10.
CAREER NIGHTS- The 25 kills from Moore are the most since Kristen Bulkiewicz's 28 at Ferris State on Nov. 14, 2012. Moore's 70 swings are the most since Megan Smolen tallied a program record 80 attacks on two occasions in 2003.

Brittany Guldan's (West Bloomfield, Mich. / Walled Lake Central) 53 assists is a season-high.
REST OF THE WARRIORS- Helping WSU's offensive attack were 14 kills from Richardson and 11 kills from Frazee. Moore and Rodriguez both posted 20-dig performances to lead five Warriors with double-digit dig nights.
