DETROIT, Mich. -- The Wayne State University Baseball team (18-9, 7-5 GLIAC) took both games of Saturday's doubleheader against Northwood (10-14, 3-8 GLIAC) at the WSU Baseball Field. The Warriors cruised to a game one 11-4 win before winning an eight-inning thriller in game two, 5-4. WSU is 2-2 in extra-inning games this season.

Game One (W, 11-4)
Starting Pitcher Kyle Zimmerman (Frankfort, Mich.) (4-2) gave WSU an early 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning. WSU extended its lead on RBI from Jeremy Carrell (St. Clair, Mich.) and Cole Clifton (Sterling Heights. Mich. / De La Salle) in the second.

A four-run inning in the bottom of the third broke the game open. Zach Johnson (Grandville, Mich.) drove in two runs with a triple to center field. Jimmy Jackson (Battle Creek, Mich. / Pennfield) and A.J. Matos (Southgate, Mich. / Detroit Western) also picked up RBI in the inning.

Jackson doubled down the right field line in the bottom of the fourth inning to give WSU an 8-0 lead.

The Timberwolves got on the board with three runs on three hits and a Warrior error in the top of the fifth inning.

WSU added its ninth run of the game on a throwing error charged to NU's shortstop in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Jackson drove in two more runs on an inside-the-park home run to right field in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Kirk Stambaugh (Sylvania, Ohio / Southview) tossed the final two innings, allowing one earned run on three hits.

Game Two (W, 5-4 / Eight Innings)
Alex Kinch (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Pioneer) (4-1) threw his second consecutive complete game, going all eight innings while throwing 113 pitches. Kinch struck out six while allowing four runs on five hits and three walks.

Zimmerman doubled to right field in the bottom of the first inning to put the Warriors on top 1-0. Both teams went scoreless until WSU scored three runs on four hits and a Northwood error in the bottom of the fourth inning. Clifton sent a two-run single throught the right side and Eric Cunningham (LaSalle, Ont. / St. Thomas of Villanova) gave WSU a 4-0 lead with an RBI single to center field.

NU rallied in the top of the fifth inning. The Timberwolves tied the game with four runs on three hits and a Warrior error. A strong throw from Cunningham cut down what could have been the go-ahead run at home to end the inning.

The Warriors put two runners on in the bottom of the seventh inning but Northwood responded with an outfield assist of its own to keep the score tied at 4-4.

Carrell drew a five-pitch walk to begin the bottom of the eighth inning. Clifton advanced Carrell to second with a sacrifice bunt before Northwood chose to intentionally walk Cunningham. Zimmerman flew out to deep right center field, allowing Carrell to tag to third base. Cameron Walker (Clinton Twp., Mich. / De La Salle) drove the game-winning RBI single off the "Green Monster" in left field to give WSU the 5-4 victory.

Northwood and WSU will wrap up the three-game series on Sunday with first pitch set for noon.
