-- The Wayne State University women's basketball team had four players score in double figures Thursday as the 18th-ranked Warriors stayed unbeaten at home with an 88-83 victory over Ferris State University. With its fourth straight win, WSU improved to 12-1 in the GLIAC and 15-2 overall.

The Bulldogs fell to 6-9 overall and 6-7 in conference play. The victory for the Warriors at home is their 16th straight overall, dating back to last season.

Wayne State had four players score 15 points or more on Thursday. Junior center Shareta Brown (Pontiac, Mich. / Grand Blanc) notched her ninth double-double of the season, recording 22 points and 16 rebounds. She pulled down a season-high 10 offensive boards.

Senior Imari Redfield (Detroit, Mich. / Country Day), junior Ondrea Hughes (Kalamazoo, Mich. / Loy Norrix) and sophomore Destiny Lavita-Stephens (Grand Blanc, Mich. / Goodrich) all each scored 15 points from the starting lineup as well for the Warriors.

Wayne State jumped out to a 13-6 lead in the first half, behind eight points, including consecutive triples, from Lavita-Stephens. Wayne State would increase its lead to double digits, 18-6, just over six minutes into the game on a lay-up by Lavita-Stephens. WSU held at least a five-point advantage for the majority of the first half, but Ferris State clawed back behind the play of guards Sarah DeShone and Dena Droste.

The Bulldogs pulled to within one point, 35-34, with 2:33 left before the break, but Redfield sank a three-pointer and Lavita-Stephens followed with a triple of her own to give the Warriors a seven-point lead, 41-34, with 1:52 to play before halftime. Ferris State, however, scored eight of the final 10 points before the break and DeShone hit her third three-pointer of the first half just before the halftime buzzer to pull the Bulldogs to within one point, 43-42.

Both teams shot well from behind the arc in the first half as FSU and WSU combined for 15 triples in the first 20 minutes. Droste went 5-for-5 from beyond the arc for FSU in the opening half. Brown achieved a double-double by halftime with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Lavita-Stephens led Warrior scorers with 13 points.

Ferris State grabbed a 44-43 lead to start the second half, but Wayne State scored nine of the next 10 points to take a 52-45 lead just two minutes into the half.

After a DeShone jumper pulled the Bulldogs to within five points, 56-51, WSU went on a 11-2 run over the next three minutes to gain a 67-53 advantage with 12:45 remaining. Hughes sank a three-pointer with 11:23 left in the game as Wayne State held its largest lead of the game of 16 points, 72-56.

The Bulldogs responded with a 17-2 run over the course of the next seven minutes to pull to within one point, 74-73, with 4:46 left on the clock. After the final media timeout, WSU countered with six straight points, four of them coming from junior Kayla Bridges (Canton, Mich. / Canton). The 6-0 run made it 80-73 WSU with 2:40 remaining.

DeShone followed with a lay-up and then made 1-of-2 free throws as FSU pulled to within four points, 80-76. Junior Jackie Jones (Detroit, Mich. / Martin Luther King) added a lay-up of her own with 1:15 left. Droste then sank a pair of foul shots as the Bulldogs again pulled to within four points, 82-78, with 58 seconds left.

Wayne State made 6-of-8 free throw shots in the final 38 seconds however to fend off any Ferris State attempts at a comeback.

Jones tallied nine points, seven assists, four steals and four rebounds for WSU and Bridges scored seven points off the bench for Wayne State. WSU shot 41.8 percent from the field and 74.2 percent (23-for-31) from the free throw line. Wayne State also had more offensive boards (23) than defensive rebounds (17) during the contest in which the Warriors out-rebounded Ferris State, 40-34.

The Warriors also had advantages in assists (16-8), steals (11-5) and second chance points (27-13), while forcing FSU into 20 turnovers.
