WAYNE STATE WARRIORS (24-25 ALL, 9-19 GLIAC/9th)

2019 Wayne State Preview

After not qualifying for the GLIAC Tournament for the first time in 34 years last spring, the Wayne State softball will look to win more close games in 2019 as the Warriors were 4-10 in one-run games a year ago (24-25 overall).  Head coach Gary Bryce enters his 38th season at the helm with 1,273 victories, which places him just 12 wins behind retired Louisiana State coach Yvette Girouard for seventh place all-time.

Among the 12 returnees are five All-GLIAC performers from 2018, including conference Freshman of the Year Bryanna Kressler (.376, 15 2B, 33 RBI).  Two Second Team All-GLIAC selections also return in infielder Hannah McClounie (.368, 7 HR, 36 RBI) and catcher/designated player Ashley Messina (.383, threw out 26% of opponent base stealers).  The remaining two all-league honorees were pitcher/utility Megan Guitar (15-11, 128 SO) and infielder Rainey Psenicka (.310, 10 BB to 7 SO).  Other returnees include juniors Emma Adams (.412) and Brooke Turkalj (.335), and sophomore Rose Myers (.289).
