2023 GLIAC Cross Country Preseason Polls and Season Previews

The Grand Valley State women's and men's cross country teams are the favorites to claim the conference crowns in 2023, according to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Preseason Coaches' Polls, which were released on Tuesday.

The GVSU women, runners-up at the 2022 NCAA Division II Championships, garnered nine first-place votes and a league-leading 81 points. Wayne State was ranked second with 71 points, including the lone remaining first-place vote. Saginaw Valley State finished third with 67 points.

Michigan Tech was slotted in fourth place in the poll, receiving 51 points, followed by Northern Michigan (46), Ferris State (43), Parkside (33), Davenport (28), Purdue Northwest (19) and Lake Superior State (9).

Defending GLIAC champion Grand Valley State topped the men's poll with 64 total points and eight first-place votes. Saginaw Valley State was voted second with 53 points and Michigan Tech finished third, totaling 49 points, and was awarded the final first-place vote.

Wayne State (4th, 46 points), Parkside (5th, 38 points), Ferris State (6th, 29 points), Purdue Northwest (7th, 19 points), Davenport (8th, 18 points) and Lake Superior State (9th, 8 points) rounded out the men's 2023 preseason poll.
