2009 GLIAC Baseball Tournament Field Set

BAY CITY, Mich.-- Four teams have qualified for the 2009 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Baseball Tournament which will be held on May 7-9 at the V.A. Stadium in Chillicothe, Ohio.

Ashland University will be the top seed in the tournament after posting the league's best regular-season record (26-5-1).  The Eagles, who are 41-11-1 overall this season, are currently ranked fourth in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II poll.

Grand Valley State University posted a 20-11-1 GLIAC record this season and earned the No. 2 seed in the tournament.  The Lakers are currently 19th in the NCBAW D-II poll with a 38-13-1 overall mark this season.  GVSU is the defending GLIAC Baseball Tournament Champion and has won the last five league tournament titles.

Northwood University will be making its first-ever appearance in the GLIAC Baseball Tournament after recording an 18-15 league slate.  The Timberwolves, who are 24-20 overall this season will be the No. 3 seed in the tournament, having won a head-to-head tiebreaker with Wayne State University.  NU defeated the Warriors three times in five tries this season.

Wayne State will be appearing in its second-straight GLIAC tournament after going 18-15 in league play.  The Warriors are 24-24 overall this season and will be the No. 4 seed in the tournament.

The 2009 GLIAC Baseball Tournament will get underway on Thursday, May 7 at 2:00 p.m. when No. 2 Grand Valley State takes on No. 3 Northwood.  No. 1 Ashland and No. 4 Wayne State willl face off at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
