Ciennik is the first Wayne State baseball student-athlete to receive CoSIDA Academic All-America accolades since Matt Essian was a First Team selection in 1995.

A two-time All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selection in his career, Ciennik was WSU's second-leading hitter with a .350 average in 2012.  He started all 55 games and totaled 62 hits, 32 runs scored, 26 RBI and 23 walks.

He ended his collegiate career as Wayne State's all-time leader in sacrifice bunts (28), sacrifice flies (16) and fielding assists (482).  Ciennik also ranks second in career games played (204) and sixth in hits (199).
