BAY CITY, Mich. - Grand Valley State University junior infielder Giancarlo Brugnoni (Grosse Pointe, Mich./De La Salle) and junior pitcher Chris Ward (Brunswick, Ohio/Owens C.C.) have been chosen as the GLIAC Baseball "Player of the Week" and "Pitcher of the Week", respectively.

Grand Valley State junior first baseman Giancarlo Brugnoni had a stellar first week of competition, hitting .519 (14-for-27) with 11 runs, four doubles, a triple, four home runs, 14 RBI, a .567 on-base percentage and an incredible 1.185 slugging percentage in the team’s first eight games. Brugnoni had a day to remember against Charleston (W.Va.) on Mar. 9, going 5-for-7 with four runs scored, nine RBI and three home runs in a doubleheader, including hitting a grand slam and three-run homer in the opening game for a seven-RBI contest.

Grand Valley State junior pitcher Chris Ward opened the season with two starts in the first week, going 1-0 with a 0.90 ERA in 10 innings pitched, including seven strikeouts. Ward held hitters to a .156 batting average against in the opening week. Against Notre Dame in the season-opener, Ward worked four innings, allowing only three hits and no runs while striking out four. In his second start against Missouri-St. Louis. Ward carried a no-hitter in to the fourth inning, finishing the game with six innings pitched, allowing only two hits and one earned run with three strikeouts.
