ASHLAND, Ohio - Ashland University head baseball coach John Schaly earned his 1,000th career victory in Game 1 of the Eagles' doubleheader against Lewis on Sunday (March 1) afternoon.
The Eagles beat Lewis, 2-1. In his 28th season as a collegiate baseball head coach, Schaly is 1,000-534-1 (.652) going into AU's second game of the twinbill on Sunday.
Schaly made college baseball history with Sunday's victory. He joins his father, Don, as they become the first father-son combination to each win at least 1,000 games at four-year institutions.
Don Schaly won 1,438 games in 40 seasons (1964-2003) guiding Division III Marietta's baseball program.
