GVSU's Jamie Potts Drafted in 31st Round By The Texas Rangers

ALLENDALE, Mich. -- Grand Valley State senior outfielder Jamie Potts (Muskegon, Mich./Oakridge) was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 31st round (pick 918) of the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft on Wednesday (June 10) afternoon. Potts is the 11th Laker all-time to be drafted and the first since 2011 when Cody Grice was taken in the 12th round by the New York Yankees.

Potts, who is a two-sport All-American for the Lakers (baseball/football), hit .369 during the 2015 campaign with 72 hits, 13 doubles, three home runs and 42 RBIs. Potts conlcuded his career ranking in the top 10 of six offensive categories (hits - 5. 241; doubles - 5. 44; triples - 6. 8; at bats - 8. 635; RBI - 8. 143; total bases - 10. 325). He earned American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Gold Glove honors following his senior season, while also being a three-time all-league performer and a two-time all-region honoree. Potts earned Daktronics, Inc. All-America honors as a junior and was a Daktronics, Inc. Preseason All-American selection as a senior. Potts hit .412 with 13 doubles and 48 RBIs as a junior. 

Jamie, who has one year of football eligibility remaining in his career, was a Daktronics, Inc. All-American as a tight end following his junior season on the gridiron, catching 54 passes for 899 yards and 11 TDs. He hauled in 54 passes for 905 yards and 10 touchdowns as a junior and has 125 receptions for 2,131 yards and 23 during his football career for the Lakers.
