Ashland, Ohio. –

For the second consecutive year, an Ashland University pitcher has been selected in the Major League Baseball Draft.

In 2015, it was Art Warren, who has become a Midwest League All-Star in less than a year. In 2016, it is Brandyn Sittinger, as the junior right-hander was selected on Saturday (June 11) by the Detroit Tigers in the 17th round (No. 505 overall).

Sittinger becomes the eighth Eagle to be drafted by an MLB organization.

In 2016, Sittinger was 11-0 with a 2.23 earned-run average in 14 appearances (13 starts). In 88 2/3 innings, he struck out 131 and allowed 65 hits, 27 runs (22 earned) and 40 walks.

Following his junior season, Sittinger has racked up postseason honors, including three All-American awards, three Midwest Region Pitcher of the Year laurels and three first-team All-Midwest Region spots. In addition, he was a finalist for the 2016 Brett Tomko Award (D2 Baseball News national Pitcher of the Year), is the 2016 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year, earned spots on the All-Midwest Region and All-GLIAC Tournament teams and was named first-team All-GLIAC, GLIAC South Division Pitcher of the Week three times and CoSIDA Academic All-District.

In two seasons with the Eagles after transferring from Division I Marshall, Sittinger led the GLIAC in strikeouts twice.
