NCAA - Three Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) baseball programs have been selected to participate in the 2016 NCAA Division II Baseball Championship's Midwest Regional hosted by Quincy University.

Grand Valley State earned the No. 2 seed in the region after capturing sharing the regular season GLIAC title and their third straight league tournament crown over the weekend. The Lakers will face off against No. 7 Hillsdale who qualified for the championship for the first time in school history. The Chargers dropped a heart-breaking defeat to Walsh in walk-off fashion in game one of Sunday's GLIAC Baseball Tournament Championship Round. The Chargers have clubbed a GLIAC-record 66 home runs so far through the season.

The final GLIAC program to head to Quincy is No. 6-seeded Ashland. The Eagles won a share of the 2016 GLIAC regular-season title, but went 0-2 in the GLIAC Tournament. Ashland is 28-31 all-time in the NCAA Division II postseason. The Eagles are going to the playoffs for the second season in a row and the fourth time this decade. All of AU's D-II postseason appearances have come since 1995.

First-round games will be played at Quincy, Illinois on Thursday, May 19. The Chargers and Lakers will square off at 5:00 p.m. local time, 6:00 p.m. Eastern. Ashland meets No. 3 UIndy at 9:30 p.m. Eastern. The Midwest Region Tournament is similar to the GLIAC Tournament in that it has a double elimination format.
