BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced its tenth weekly baseball awards for the 2016 season. Wayne State senior Alex Kinch captured GLIAC North Division Pitcher of the Week honors, while Hillsdale senior Tad Sobieszczanski collected GLIAC North Division Player of the Week accolades. In the South Division, Lake Erie freshman Russell Lamovec garnered GLIAC Pitcher of the Week distinction along with Ashland senior Mackenzie Hampshire who was named GLIAC Player of the Week.

Highlights: Wayne State senior Alex Kinch pitched the game of his career on Saturday against Findlay. He struck out a career-high 12 batters and did not allow an earned run on two hits. In the process, he notched his ninth career complete game. After the dozen Ks, Kinch ranks third in the league at 72 strikeouts and lowered his ERA nearly half of a run. He leads the league in innings pitched and his three complete games this season ranks fifth. |

Highlights: Hillsdale senior Tad Sobieszczanski crushed five home runs and drove in 11 during a week that saw Hillsdale clinch its first GLIAC Tournament spot in 13 years. He recorded two home runs in a 13-7 win over Northwood April 27 and had another against first-place Grand Valley State on May 1. Tad compiled a .320 batting average with a 1.000 slugging percentage for the week, picking up hits in five of the team's six games. Sobieszczanski doubled his season total of home runs in a six-game span this week. | |||

Highlights: In a week in which the Eagles went 3-1 at home against Malone and clinched both a second consecutive GLIAC South title and a spot in the 2016 GLIAC Tournament, Ashland senior first baseman Mackenzie Hampshire was consistently productive at the plate. He was 9-for-13 (.692) with four runs scored, a double, a home run and five RBIs. | |||
