GLIAC Baseball Athletes of the Week - Week 1

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced its first weekly baseball awards for the 2016 season. Saginaw Valley sophomore Mike Ellenbest captured GLIAC North Division Pitcher of the Week honors, while Hillsdale junior first baseman Ethan Wiksur collected GLIAC North Division Player of the Week accolades. In the South Division, Ohio Dominican sophomore hurler Matt Kittelberger takes home GLIAC Pitcher of the Week awards with Tiffin senior third baseman Nick Hueneberg garnering GLIAC Player of the Week recognition.

Pitcher of the Week - North Division
Mike Ellenbest Saginaw Valley Pitcher So.

Highlights: Saginaw Valley sophomore starting pitcher Mike Ellenbest continued the solid pitching he finished the 2015 campaign with, as he ran his scoreless innings streak to 32.0 after tossing six shutout innings in a 12-0 victory at Kentucky State on Saturday afternoon. Ellenbest threw just 78 pitches in his outing, striking-out nine batters while allowing just one hit and walking one batter.

Pitcher of the Week - South Division
Matt Kittelberger Ohio Dominican Pitcher So.

Highlights: Ohio Dominican sophomore Matt Kittelberger tossed career high 7.0 innings and allowed just two hits in 4-0 win over Wheeling Jesuit. He struck out four and walked just one batter. His previous career high was 4.0 innings pitched. Kittelberger helped the Panthers pitching staff record consecutive shutouts of Wheeling Jesuit. Kittelberger was the only GLIAC pitcher to go seven or more innings without allowing a run.

Player of the Week - North Division

Ethan Wiksur Hillsdale First Base Jr.
Highlights: Hillsdale junior first baseman Ethan Wiskur batted .452 through the season's first seven games for the Charger baseball team, leading the team to a 5-2 record. He had one home run, 10 runs batted in with nine runs scored.
Player of the Week - South Division
Nick Hueneburg Tiffin Third Base Sr.
Highlights: Tiffin senior third baseman Nick Hueneburg couldn't have started the season any better, bashing five home runs in eight games, and collecting at least one hit in seven of the Dragons eight games. The power surge began on opening day, pounding a two run homer in a one run defeat. February 19, was a special day for the Dragon third baseman, clubbing three homers and racking up seven RBI's in game one of a double header against Lincoln Memorial. The fireworks continued in the nightcap, with Hueneburg walloping another home run to cap off a four homer day.
