GLIAC Baseball Athletes of the Week - Week 2

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced its second weekly baseball awards for the 2016 season. Findlay freshman hurler Mark Delas captured GLIAC North Division Pitcher of the Week honors after throwing a no-hitter in his first start as an Oiler, while Hillsdale senior outfielder Luke Ortel collected GLIAC North Division Player of the Week accolades. In the South Division, Ashland junior pitcher Jake Baldwin garnered GLIAC Pitcher of the Week awards with Tiffin junior shortstop Isaac Perry being selected for GLIAC Player of the Week recognition.

Pitcher of the Week - North Division
Mark Delas Findlay Pitcher Fr.

Highlights: Findlay redshirt freshman Mark Delas made his first career start on Thursday vs. Gannon University. Delas threw a complete game no-hitter and faced the minimum 21 batters against the Golden Knights who entered the game with an 8-2 record and a team batting average of .367 which was ninth in the country at the time. Delas had six strikeouts and walked just one in the win. It is the first no-hitter thrown by an Oilers pitcher since the 1996 season when Jack Zaborowski no-hit the Tiffin Dragons.

Pitcher of the Week - South Division
Jake Baldwin Ashland Pitcher Jr.

Highlights: In a 6-1 win over Lewis to begin the Eagles’ annual Florida trip, Ashland junior pitcher Jake Baldwin struck out 10 and allowed five hits and an unearned run over five innings. In two starts to begin the 2016 season, Baldwin is 2-0 with a 0.00 earned-run average and 18 strikeouts in 10 innings. He is 20-2 lifetime as an Eagle.

Player of the Week - North Division

Luke Ortel Hillsdale Outfielder Sr.
Highlights: Hillsdale senior outfielder Luke Ortel had a huge weekend for the Charger baseball team. In four games, all Hillsdale wins, Ortel batted .588 with 5 doubles, 2 triples, 7 runs batted in and 4 runs scored. The Chargers swept both Kentucky Wesleyan and Urbana to run their winning streak to 7 games, improving to 9-2, the best 11-game start in program history. Ortel was 3-for-3 with two doubles, a triple and a career-high 5 RBI in Sunday's 13-2 win over the Blue Knights. Ortel was 10-for-17 batting over the weekend's four games.
Player of the Week - South Division
Isaac Perry Tiffin Shortstop Jr.
Highlights: Tiffin junior shortstop Isaac Perry hit .350 last week collecting at least one hit in all five games. Perry show great poise for the Dragons, knocking in 10 runs, including three games in which he nabbed two RBI's or more. Against Wheeling Jesuit, Isaac went 3 for 5 with a triple, scored three runs, and added four RBI's. Perry also did the job in the field, playing shortstop without a blemish. In 22 total chances, Perry did not commit an error, making eight putouts, and adding 14 assists. For the season, Perry is hitting .300 with 13 RBI's, and is hitting .375 with runners in scoring position.
