GLIAC Baseball Athletes of the Week - Week 4

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced its fourth weekly baseball awards for the 2016 season. Grand Valley State junior Kyle Lawson captured GLIAC North Division Pitcher of the Week honors for the second consecutive week, while Wayne State junior outfielder Griffin Harms collected GLIAC North Division Player of the Week accolades. In the South Division, Malone senior Tyler Whitlatch garnered GLIAC Pitcher of the Week awards along with Ohio Dominican sophomore outfielder Lee Sponseller who was named GLIAC Player of the Week for the second straight week.

Pitcher of the Week - North Division
Kyle Lawson Grand Valley State Pitcher Jr.

Highlights: GVSU junior hurler Kyle Lawson pitched seven innings in a win at No. 15 University of Indianapolis, allowing one unearned run while scattering five hits and three walks and striking out four batters. 

Pitcher of the Week - South Division
Tyler Whitlatch Malone Pitcher Sr.

Highlights: The 6-foot-5 lefty was dominant in game one of a doubleheader against Findlay on Friday, striking out a career-high 11 batters while allowing just three hits, one run, and no walks. After giving up two singles and a run in the top of the first and another single in the 2nd, Whitlatch was perfect down the stretch. He retired the final 17 batters in order and collected seven of his 11 strikeouts over the final three innings. With the win, he improved to 2-0 on the year and lowered his ERA to an even 2.00 - the fifth lowest rate in the conference.

Player of the Week - North Division

Griffin Harms Wayne State Outfielder Jr.
Highlights: Wayne State junior Griffin Harms hit .634 the past week and drove in six runs, while scoring five more to help Wayne State go 4-0. In the win over Rockhurst he went 4-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. He collected three doubles and drove in three runs in game one on Friday. He finished the week with a .684 on-base percentage and a .929 slugging percentage.
Player of the Week - South Division

Highlights: Hit for the cycle in just four at bats in 11-5 win over Hillsdale on Saturday...Batted .636 on week with 1.182 slugging percentage...Went 7-for-11 with a walk in 12 plate appearances...Leads GLIAC in batting (.520), on-base (.636) and slugging (.880) along with runs (22).
