GLIAC Baseball Athletes of the Week - Week 6

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced its sixth weekly baseball awards for the 2016 season. Grand Valley State senior Tim Tarter captured GLIAC North Division Pitcher of the Week honors, while Wayne State sophomore infielder JT Conti collected GLIAC North Division Player of the Week accolades. In the South Division, Malone freshman Clyde Yoder garnered GLIAC Pitcher of the Week awards along with his Pioneer teammate junior Brenden Wells was named GLIAC Player of the Week.

Pitcher of the Week - North Division
Tim Tarter Grand Valley State Pitcher Sr.

Highlights: Appearing in two games, Grand Valley State senior Tim Tarter threw 7.0 shutout innings against Saginaw Valley, allowing just four hits, walking one and striking out four to earn his third win of the season. Tarter then came on in relief against Ashland pitching 1.2 innings. He finished with a 1.04 ERA in two appearances, pitching 8.2 innings, allowing eight hits and striking out four. 

Pitcher of the Week - South Division
Clyde Yoder Malone Pitcher Fr.

Highlights: Malone freshman Clyde Yoder picked up his first career save on Sunday night after tossing four hitless innings in an 8-3 victory over Northwood. The freshman righthander scattered three walks and struck out six in an outstanding relief outing.

Player of the Week - North Division

JT Conti Wayne State Infielder So.
Highlights: Sophomore JT Conti led Wayne State to a 5-1 record this past week including a four-game sweep at Ohio Dominican. He hit .579, slugged .895 with 10 RBI and six doubles. He recorded four multiple-hit games, including two three-hit performances and scored seven runs. In game two at ODU on Saturday, he drove in four runs. In addition, he was only charged one error in 34 total chances at first base.
Player of the Week - South Division
Brenden Wells Malone Outfielder Jr.
Highlights: Malone junior Brenden Wells had tremendous week at the plate, going 8-for-15 (.533) and slugging 1.467. Six of his eight hits went for extra bases including four home runs. In a two-game set with Northwood, Wells went 5-for-9, hit three homers, scored three runs and drove in five. On the week, Wells scored seven runs, totaled nine RBI and swiped a bag while helping Malone to three wins in four tries.
