GLIAC Baseball Athletes of the Week - Week 8

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced its eighth weekly baseball awards for the 2016 season. Findlay senior Mason Mayberry captured GLIAC North Division Pitcher of the Week honors, while Wayne State junior Griffin Harms collected GLIAC North Division Player of the Week accolades. In the South Division, Ashland junior Brandyn Sittinger garnered GLIAC Pitcher of the Week distinction along with his Eagle teammate sophomore J.P. Sorma who was named GLIAC Player of the Week.

Pitcher of the Week - North Division
Mason Mayberry Findlay Pitcher Sr.

Highlights: Findlay senior Mason Mayberry had arguably the best week of his career this past week, turning in a couple of double-digit strikeout games including his first collegiate no-hitter. First, coming off 18 days since his previous start, Mayberry turned in a no-hitter on Tuesday to give the Oilers a win over SVSU. In that game, Mason struck out 12, tying a career-high, and allowed just four base runners, two walks and two errors. It was the second no-hitter by an Oilers' pitcher this season after not recording a no-no in any of the previous 19 seasons. His next start would come on five-days rest and again, he delivered. Mayberry took a no-decision on the mound despite pitching seven innings, allowing no earned runs, just four hits, and striking out 10 batters.

Pitcher of the Week - South Division
Brandyn Sittinger Ashland Pitcher Jr.

Highlights: This is Ashland junior Brandyn Sittinger’s third South honor of the season, all in the last four weeks. He was 2-0 with a 0.82 earned-run average last week in wins against the Storm and the Chargers, striking out 15, walking four and allowing six hits in 11 innings. He ended the week with 10 2/3 consecutive scoreless frames. Sittinger is the GLIAC leader in wins (seven) and strikeouts (79), and is fourth in the conference with a 2.75 ERA.

Player of the Week - North Division

Griffin Harms Wayne State Outfielder Jr.
Highlights: Junior outfielder Griffin Harms continued his impressive season with his best week of his career. He hit .469 with four home runs, five doubles, nine runs scored and 13 RBI. He slugged 1.000 and reached base at a .514 clip. On Monday's win at Grand Valley State he drove in three runs. He did the same against Lake Erie on Saturday with two doubles. He ended the week with a 3-for-4 game with a double, a home run and four RBI. He ranks third in the league in batting average, slugging percentage and fourth in RBI. In addition, he has the second most total bases in the league.
Player of the Week - South Division
J.P. Sorma Ashland Third Base So.
Highlights: Ashland sophomore J.P. Sorma, in the midst of a breakout season, had a breakout week in six games at home against Lake Erie and at Hillsdale. He was 15-for-25 (.600) five home runs, five doubles, 14 RBIs and 12 runs scored. Sorma is tied for second in the GLIAC in home runs with nine, is fourth in slugging percentage at .670 and is tied for ninth in RBIs with 32.
