Ohio Dominican's Childers, Walsh's Iosue Land GLIAC Baseball Player of the Week Honors

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly baseball awards following week 11 of the 2017 campaign. Ohio Dominican junior Justin Childers earned GLIAC Baseball Player of the Week honors, while Walsh senior Matt Iosue captured Pitcher of the Week accolades for the second time this season.


PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Justin Childers - Ohio Dominican

Ohio Dominican junior Justin Childers had at least one hit in all five games last week, with four multi-hit efforts. Childers recorded a double in all five games and four multi-RBI games. He batted .533 with a .556 OBP while slugging .947 and helped ODU split four games with first place Northwood by batting .526 with a homer, four doubles and six RBIs in the series. Childers ranks second in the GLIAC with a .434 BA and .508 OBP while leading the league with a .786 slugging percentage. He is also second in RBI (48) and runs (54), third in walks (25) and stolen bases (15) and fifth in homers (11).


PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Matt Iosue - Walsh

Walsh senior Matt Iosue had another incredible outing as he shutout Saginaw Valley to open the series on Friday in a 9-0 win. He was an inning shy of the complete game, but still proceeded to strikeout nine batters to tie a season-high. He scattered five hits and didn't allow a single runner past second base. He now leads the GLIAC with a 2.21 ERA overall and a 1.23 ERA in conference games. He is third with seven wins.
