Wayne State's Tompson, Lake Erie's Birchmeier Claim GLIAC Baseball Player of the Week Accolades

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly baseball awards following the start of the 2017 campaign. Lake Erie junior Wes Birchmeier earned GLIAC Baseball Player of the Week honors, while Wayne State senior Tyler Tompson captured Pitcher of the Week accolades.


PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Wes Birchmeier, Lake Erie

Lake Erie junior Wes Birchmeier went 9-15 on opening weekend for the Storm, and helped propel the Storm to a 3-1 record. He hit two home runs and and drove in eight during his four game weekend. Seven of Birchmeier's nine hits this weekend were extra base hits. 


PITCHER OF THE WEEK - Tyler Tompson, Wayne State

Wayne State senior Tyler Tompson steadied WSU's pitching staff with three scoreless innings in thee extra-inning victory on Friday. He struck out seven batters on his way to his first victory of the season.
