Wayne State's Baldwin, Tompson Sweep GLIAC Baseball Players of the Week Awards

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly baseball awards following week eight of the 2017 campaign. Wayne State junior Brad Baldwin earned GLIAC Baseball Player of the Week honors, while Wayne State senior Tyler Tompson captured Pitcher of the Week accolades.


PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Brad Baldwin, Wayne State

Wayne State junior Brad Baldwin helped WSU go 6-0 this past week but hitting .667 (14-for-21) with 11 RBI ands extra-base hits. He collected four doubles and two home runs, while slugging 1.143. He reached base at .731 clip. He posted four multi-hit games highlighted by a 4-for-5 game on Sunday. He drove in at least one run in five of the six games and did not make an error in 19 chances. in the 12 league games this season Baldwin is hitting .524 with 15 RBI and an .810 slugging percentage.


PITCHER OF THE WEEK - Tyler Tompson, Wayne State

A big part of WSU solid start and 6-0 week is senior right-hander Tyler Tompson who appeared in three games this past week and collected saves in each contest to bring his season total to six, which is tied-for-third in the league. He did not allow a hit in his two and 2/3 innings of work, while striking out three batters. Only one batter reached against Tompson over the last six games.
