Saginaw Valley's Brooks, Walsh's Iosue Capture GLIAC Baseball Players of the Week Awards

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly baseball awards following week nine of the 2017 campaign. Saginaw Valley freshman Cole Brooks earned GLIAC Baseball Player of the Week honors, while Walsh senior Matt Iosue captured Pitcher of the Week accolades.


PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Cole Brooks, Saginaw Valley

Saginaw Valley freshman Cole Brooks had a stellar week for the Cardinals in GLIAC action. He hit .567, going 17-for-30. Brooks drilled five home runs, adding four doubles, a triple and 20 RBI. He had an on-base percentage of .667 and slugged 1.267. The highlight of the week was his 4-4 effort against Tiffin on Monday, including two home runs, a double and eight RBI.


PITCHER OF THE WEEK - Matt Iosue, Walsh

Walsh senior southpaw Matt Iosue tossed a complete game one-hit shutout in game one of Walsh's series sweep of Findlay over the weekend. It was his GLIAC-best second complete game shutout of the season. He struck out seven and allowed just three base runners with only one advancing no further than second base on the day. The seven strikeouts are the second-most he's thrown in a game this season. Iosue is now second in the GLIAC in wins with six and ERA at 2.60.
