GLIAC -- No. 1 Northwood & No. 2 Davenport both earned victories on Friday action while the No. 3 Ashland vs. No. 5 Grand Valley State contest was postponed at the 2018 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Baseball Tournament presented by Raymond James of Dearborn held at the Detroit Police Athletic League (PAL) Corner Ballpark in Detroit. The six-team, double-elimination format runs through Sunday when a tournament champion will be crowned.

Davenport started Friday action with a 11-6 decision over No. 6 seed Tiffin in an elimination contest taking 3 hours and 40 minutes in brisk temperatures along with a steady rainfall. The Panthers gained the edge early to lead 4-2 after two innings before the Dragons jumped in front 5-4 one inning later. DU then put the game out of reach in the seventh with a four-spot to eventually win by five. Brian Sobieski and Jacob Buchberger recorded three RBI each in the winning effort, while Brent Showers scored three times and posted two hits on the day.

In the second contest of the day, Northwood eliminated Wayne State from the tournament with a 3-1 victory after the Timberwolves overcame an early 1-run deficit when a pair of RBI doubles from David Vinsky and Javier Martinez in the bottom of the sixth proved to be the difference as Lennon Gwizdala locked down his 12th save of the year.

The final contest scheduled for day two was No. 3 Ashland facing off against No. 5 Grand Valley State. The game is postponed due to inclement weather in the Detroit area for most of Friday night and will resume on Saturday morning at 2:00 PM. Each game in the time schedule will be moved back one time slot, with Northwood facing the winner of AU/GVSU at 5:30 PM and Davenport battling the AU/GVSU loser at 9:00 PM. Should Northwood and Davenport meet in Game 9, that game will also be played on Saturday night.
