Wayne State's Kelly, Ashland's Peters Collect GLIAC Baseball Players of the Week Honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly baseball awards following week ten of the 2018 campaign. Wayne State junior catcher Justin Kelly earned GLIAC Baseball Player of the Week honors, while Ashland junior Devin Peters captured Pitcher of the Week accolades.


PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Justin Kelly, Wayne State

Wayne State junior catcher Justin Kelly helped WSU baseball collect its first four-game sweep of the season by hitting .438 with 10 RBI, three home runs and two doubles. He finished the four games with 1.125 slugging percentage and 18 total bases. He also made an impact from behind the plate, throwing out three runners trying to steal. in the doubleheader on Saturday he collected two home runs and eight RBI.


PITCHER OF THE WEEK - Devin Peters, Ashland

Ashland junior Devin Peters went 2-0 in two starts last week with a 0.82 ERA. He struck out 14 and did not issue a walk across 11 innings. Opponents batted just .220 off him. He gave up one run on five hits with seven strikeouts in five innings to beat Findlay, 18-3, on Wednesday. He used only 57 pitches in the game. The right-hander followed that up on Saturday by tossing six scoreless innings against Purdue Northwest in an 11-0 win. He struck out seven batters and allowed just four hits. Peters is 6-4 on the season and lowered his ERA to 3.94. He is tied for second in the GLIAC with 64 strikeouts.
