GVSU's Gleason, Ashland's Hitchcock Tabbed GLIAC Baseball Players of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly baseball awards following week four of the 2018 campaign. Grand Valley State junior right fielder Jacob Gleason earned GLIAC Baseball Player of the Week honors, while Ashland sophomore pitcher Chance Hitchcock captured Pitcher of the Week accolades.


PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Jacob Gleason, Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State junior right fielder Jacob Gleason hit .500 in nine games on the Lakers' spring trip to Florida in which they went 6-3. Gleason was 17-for-34 with 13 RBI, 11 runs scored, four doubles and a home run. Gleason also walked six times and was 1-1 in stolen bases. He tallied a slugging percentage of .706 and an on base percentage of .585. Gleason was 5-for-6 with six RBI in a win over Cedarville, while also recording a 4-for-4 effort vs. Rockhurst and a 3-for-3 outing vs. defending National Champion and currently 13th-ranked West Chester. Gleason currently leads the GLIAC in hits (27) and RBIs (20), while ranking second in batting average (.482).


PITCHER OF THE WEEK - Chance Hitchcock, Ashland

Ashland sophomore pitcher Chance Hitchcock went 2-0 with a 1.98 ERA in two starts last week. Hitchcock struck out 13 and walked two in 13 2/3 innings for the Eagles. In a 5-3 win over Findlay, Hitchcock gave up just two runs on four hits in 7 2/3 innings, while striking out 10 in the game. Sunday, Hitchcock allowed just one run over six innings as the Eagles beat Notre Dame, 13-2, including three strikeouts without any walks.
