DU's Djuraskovic and SVSU's Swiss garner GLIAC baseball Week 1 awards

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly baseball awards following week 1 of the 2019 season. Saginaw Valley State senior infielder Jordan Swiss earned GLIAC Baseball Player of the Week honors, while Davenport junior Cal Djuraskovic captured Pitcher of the Week accolades.


PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jordan Swiss - Saginaw Valley State

Senior infielder Jordan Swiss (Petoskey, Mich.) began the season hot at the plate, going 7-for-10 with a pair of doubles and five RBI in a weekend series at 15th-ranked Illinois-Springfield. Swiss walked twice and had a pair of stolen bases as well in the games. He had a .900 slugging percentage as SVSU went 0-3 in the series. Swiss also totaled one putout and four assists.


PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Cal Djuraskovic - Davenport

Davenport junior Cal Djuraskovic (Chicago, Ill.) got the start in the third and final game of the opening series at Ohio Valley. He delivered five innings of one-hit ball with a walk and six strikeouts in a 13-1 win. It was the first career victory for Djuraskovic at Davenport and helped the Panthers begin the season 3-0 overall.
