Northwood's Vinsky and SVSU's Wise garner weekly baseball honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly baseball awards following Week 5 of the 2019 season. Northwood junior outfielder David Vinsky earned GLIAC Baseball Player of the Week honors, while Saginaw Valley State junior Brandon Wise captured Pitcher of the Week accolades.


PLAYER OF THE WEEK: David Vinsky -- Northwood

Junior David Vinsky (Farmington Hills, Mich.) set the Northwood school record for career hits as he batted .500 in five games. He finished the week with 10 hits, two home runs, six RBI, nine runs scored, a .583 on-base percentage and an .800 slugging percentage. Vinsky now stands with 227 hits in his career - the old record was 225. He currently leads the GLIAC in seven different statistical categories, including home runs, slugging percentage and RBIs. Vinsky currently has seven home runs - five more than any other player in the GLIAC.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Brandon Wise - Saginaw Valley State

Junior righty Brandon Wise (Auburn, Mich.) was stellar in an road victory over #15 Mercyhurst on Sunday afternoon. Wise fired seven innings, allowing just two hits and one run while striking-out a career-best 11 batters. He is now 2-0 on the season and has 21 strikeouts in his 18.2 innings pitched for the Cardinals.
