Warriors sweep baseball player of the week honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly baseball awards following Week 7 of the 2019 season. Wayne State senior Justin Kelly earned GLIAC Baseball Player of the Week honors, while Warriors junior Hunter Brown captured Pitcher of the Week accolades.


PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Justin Kelly - Wayne State

Senior Justin Kelly (Wheaton, Ill.) helped Wayne State win three of four at Northwood by hitting .417 (5-for-12) with nine RBI, including a seven-RBI performance in the series finale. He hit a grand slam in that game. Kelly also walked twice and recorded a .467 on-base percentage for the week.The seven RBI are the most since Kyle Zimmerman drove in eight runs against Urbana on April 9, 2013. Kelly is six career home runs shy of matching the program record, currently held by Jon Weisman (36 / 2003-07).

PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Hunter Brown - Wayne State

Junior right hander Hunter Brown (St. Clair Shores, Mich.) notched his second straight complete game shutout to improve to 4-0 on the season as Wayne State won three of four at Northwood. Brown allowed just two hits and struck out seven batters as he lowered his ERA to 1.71.
