DU's Buchberger and WSU's Brown are named baseball players of the week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly baseball awards following Week 9 of the 2019 season. Davenport junior Jacob Buchberger earned GLIAC Baseball Player of the Week honors, while Wayne State junior Hunter Brown captured Pitcher of the Week accolades for the second time this season.


PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jacob Buchberger - Davenport

Junior third baseman Jacob Buchberger (Montague, Mich.) had a tremendous weekend against Purdue Northwest, batting .750 with 12 hits in 16 at-bats as the Panthers swept all four games. He scored 10 runs compared to 16 runs scored by the Pride in the four games. Buchberger went 4-for-4 with four runs, a double and two steals in game one on Saturday. He ran his season stolen base total to 17-for-17 with three steals during the week. He leads the team with eight home runs after hitting two during the weekend. He slugged 1.250 and had a .778 on-base percentage against the Pride

PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Hunter Brown - Wayne State

Junior Hunter Brown (St. Clair Shores, Mich.) helped Wayne State sweep a three-game series from sixth-ranked Ashland this past weekend. He started Game 2 and struck out 10 batters, allowing just one run on four hits during six innings of work. He leads the GLIAC in strikeouts (78), ERA (1.96), while ranking second in victories (6).
