GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced its 2019 All-GLIAC Baseball Teams and postseason awards in conjunction with the conference's annual baseball tournament, which begins Thursday at Traverse City Field. The awards were voted on by the conference baseball coaches.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Jacob Buchberger - Davenport

Jacob Buchberger (Montague, Mich.) becomes the second Panther in consecutive years to earn GLIAC Player of the Year following Zac Wilson in 2018. He had one of the best seasons in Davenport history, ranking second with a .424 batting average. He also ranked fourth in stolen bases (22) and runs (50). In addition, he ranked fifth in slugging percentage (.673) and on-base percentage (.492), sixth in total bases (111) and eighth in hits (70). Buchberger led the GLIAC in batting average and stolen bases and was also second in hits and slugging percentage. He ranked third in runs, total bases, and on-base percentage.

Buchberger not only performed well at the plate but also was used as a relief pitcher seven times. He went 8.2 innings and allowed no earned runs with eight strikeouts and earned a pair of saves. He had three-plus hits in a game nine times during the season and finished with 11 doubles, three triples, eight home runs, and 37 RBI from primarily the leadoff spot. Buchberger ranks fourth all-time at Davenport with 36 steals and 14 home runs. He also is seventh with eight triples and ninth with 101 runs scored.

PITCHER OF THE YEAR: Hunter Brown - Wayne State

Hunter Brown (St. Claire Shores, Mich.) is the first Warrior to win the GLIAC Pitcher of the Year award since Justin Mazur (2010). The right-hander finished the regular season 9-0 with a 1.82 ERA and 100 strikeouts in 74 innings.  He tallied three shutouts and opponents are hitting just .187 against Brown.  His 1.000 winning percentage is a program record and he led the league in wins, strikeouts, ERA and shutouts. His ERA is the sixth-best in school history and his 100 strikeouts is tied for fourth with Anthony Bass (2008), and Gordon Reck's (1971) record of 121 is within striking distance.

FRESHMAN PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Hunter DeLanoy - Wayne State

Hunter DeLanoy (Hartland, Mich.) hit .339 in 45 starts and led Wayne State with eight triples, which is third nationally and one shy pf the program record held by Dave Zelamanski (1978). He scored 33 runs and tallied nine doubles and two home runs, while driving in 36 runs. DeLanoy enters the playoffs with a .511 slugging percentage and a .393 on-base percentage. The freshman stole four bases and made just one error in 108 chances to post a .991 fielding percentage. DeLanoy is the first Warrior to earn the GLIAC Freshman Player of the Year Award since Michael Wiseman (2008).

FRESHMAN PITCHER OF THE YEAR: Rylan Peets - Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State freshman Rylan Peets (Spring Lake, Mich.) led the Laker pitching staff with a 4-3 record and a 2.85 earned run average during the 2019 baseball campaign. Peets logged 47.1 innings, striking out 37 and holding opponents to a .257 batting average. His 2.85 earned run average ranked fourth in the GLIAC. Peets won his final three GLIAC starts, including a complete-game, 4-1 9-inning victory over Purdue Northwest when he allowed just one run, while striking out five. Peets tallied 14 strikeouts, while allowing just 14 hits and six runs in his final 17.1 innings.
