BAY CITY, Mich. - Week 10 of the NCAA Division II football season finds five the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) football teams tied for first place in the race for the Conference title. The University of Indianapolis, Wayne State University, Saginaw Valley State University, Ashland University and Hillsdale College all have 6-2 GLIAC records with two weeks remaining in the regular season.
Two more teams, Grand Valley State University and the University of Findlay, sit just one game back at 5-3, still having hopes of at least a share of the GLIAC crown. The last time the GLIAC had more than two team tie for the conference title was 1992 when Ferris State, Hillsdale, Butler University (Ind.), and Grand Valley State all posted 8-2 league marks.
The GLIAC has five teams ranked in the latest NCAA D-II Super Region #3 rankings led by Saginaw Valley State, which climbed to No. 4 this week. Ashland is sixth, followed by Wayne State in seventh, Indianapolis in eighth, and Hillsdale in tenth.
One team will fall out of first place when No. 24 Wayne State
visits Indianapolis on Saturday (6:00 p.m.). The Warriors
have won four straight in this series, and have posted four
consecutive wins in Indianapolis. The Greyhounds are riding a
five-game winning streak, their first streak of that length since
1999.
