BAY CITY, Mich. - The first weekend of conference play saw exciting wins and upsets. This weekend's slate of games promises much of the same, and includes a clash of two teams that had eight conference wins in 2010.
Michigan Technological University (2-0, 1-0), No. 22 in the latest American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II Top 25 poll, will visit No. 14 Wayne State University (2-0, 1-0) on Saturday (noon). The Warriors shared the 2010 GLIAC South Division title with Hillsdale College, while the Huskies finished one game out of first place in the North Division. In 2010 the two teams met in Houghton with Michigan Tech winning 24-7. Both teams narrowly missed the playoffs last year, and this game will give the winner an early edge in the GLIAC race and for a playoff birth.
The GLIAC's other nationally-ranked team, No 15 Grand Valley
State University (1-1, 0-1), is coming off a loss at Hillsdale
34-31 on a last second field goal. The Lakers will travel to the
University of Indianapolis (1-1, 0-1) to take on the Greyhounds
(6:00 p.m.). Indianapolis looks to rebound after a 39-36 four
overtime loss to Ashland University last week.
