Ashland Enters the Latest AFCA Division II Coaches' Top 25 Poll at No. 23

WACO, Texas -Thanks to a 30-24 overtime win over then-No. 1 North Alabama in Florence, Ala., Delta State (Miss.) moves into the No. 1 spot in the AFCA Division II Coaches’ Top 25 Poll for the first time since October 2, 2001. Delta State began the 2001 season at No. 1 and held the top spot for six straight weeks. The Statesmen received 23 of a possible 29 first place votes. Bloomsburg (Pa.) moves up to No. 2 and received four first place votes, followed by Washburn (Kan.) at No. 3 and Pittsburg State (Kan.) at No. 4. Washburn (Kan.) and Pittsburg State (Kan.) each received one first place vote. North Alabama dropped to No. 5 this week.


There are two Top 10 matchups this week as No. 1 Delta State (Miss.) plays host to No. 10 Valdosta State (Ga.) while No. 3 Washburn (Kan.) travels to No. 6 Northwest Missouri State. In other Top 25 action, No. 9 Abilene Christian (Texas) travels to No. 12 Midwestern State (Texas) in a key Lone Star Conference game. Slippery Rock (Pa.) and Ashland (Ohio) enter the poll for the first time this season at No. 22 and No. 23, respectively. This is the Rock’s first ranking in the AFCA Division II Coaches’ Top 25 Poll since October 23, 2007.
