ASHLAND, Ohio - Ashland University kicker Gregg Berkshire (Ashland, Ohio) is one of 42 kickers from around the country who has been honored for excellence on the field and in the community for the month of September by the Fred Mitchell Committee.

Berkshire is one of 18 NCAA Division II kickers honored for the opening month of the season.  The Ashland senior began the season on the Mitchell Watch List. He was a finalist for the Mitchell Award in 2010. This award is presented to the top kicker in the nation based on performance on the field and involvement in community projects.

Berkshire has scored 42 points this season. He is 9-for-13 on field goal attempts and 15-for-15 on extra point attempts.  Berkshire is the GLIAC leader in field goals, extra points and kick scoring.  He is Ashland’s career leader in field goals (49), extra points (133) and points (280).  Berkshire has been named the GLIAC special teams player of the week once this year.

Prior to Ashland’s game with Northern Michigan last Saturday, Berkshire, along with several other AU players, participated in a project at the AU bookstore where stories were read to area children.  He has also been a guest speaker at several Sunday School classes at a local church and has been involved in a community drive to upgrade Ashland City Schools.

Berkshire and the Eagles play at Northwood this Saturday (Oct. 1, noon).  Ashland is 2-2, 2-1 in GLIAC play.
