Wayne State's Joe Long Makes National Ballot for the Gene Upshaw Division II Lineman of the Year Award

Mankato, Minn. -- Wayne State (Mich.) senior offensive tackle Joe Long and Concordia University, St. Paul, senior offensive
tackle Tyler Hendrickson have earned spots on the national ballot for the ninth annual Gene Upshaw Division II Lineman of the Year Award sponsored by the Manheim (Pa.) Touchdown Club.

The 2011 Upshaw Award winner will be announced on Jan. 22, 2012, at the East/West Shrine Game in St. Petersburg, Fla. The winner will be presented with the Gene Upshaw Award as the NCAA Division II Lineman of the Year at the Manheim Touchdown Club Banquet in Lancaster, Pa.

Long, a native of Lapeer, Mich., garnered 13 of 24 first-place votes in regional voting to go with three second-place votes. Hendrickson, who hails from St. Paul, Minn., received two first-place votes and 12 second-place tallies. Long accumulated 96 total points while Hendrickson garnered 66. A year ago, Hendrickson finished third in the voting with 39 points.

Nebraska Kearney’s Stephen Goodin (Hastings, Neb.) was third with 42 votes while Michigan Tech’s Todd Storm (Calumet, Mich.) was fourth with 40 votes and Colorado State Pueblo’s Ryan Jensen (Fort Morgan, Colo.) finished fifth with 26 votes.

The region consists of football-playing institutions from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The complete breakdown of votes in the Super Region Three portion of the 2011 Gene Upshaw Division II Lineman of the Year Award voting was as follows:
