PAINESVILLE, OHIO -- One day after being named the first Defensive Player of the Week of the season by the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), Lake Erie College senior outside linebacker Kevin Chapman received weekly recognition from the d2football.com website as its national Defensive Player of the Week on Wednesday (Sept. 7).

Chapman recorded a career-high 14 tackles, including six solo stops, in the Storm's season-opening 13-10 win over Gannon University on Thursday night (Sept. 1).  He had 3.5 tackles for loss, including 1.5 quarterback sacks.  He came up with a big fourth-quarter sack and fumble recovery on Gannon quarterback Daniel Tapscott  and also batted down a pass as the Storm (1-0) rallied for its first season opening victory ever and claimed the Captain's Wheel Trophy in the Battle of Lake Erie.

This is the second weekly honor from d2football.com for Lake Erie.  Last year, Chapman's classmate, quarterback Sean Bedevelsky (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) was named Offensive Player of the Week following his performance in the win at the University of Findlay.

Chapman and the Storm open GLIAC play on the road this weekend, with a 1 p.m. kickoff at Michigan Technological University.
