UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University football team participated in the Walk to Cure Diabetes at Veteran's Memorial Park in Bay City on October 2. The event was put on by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and their mission to find a cure for Type I diabetes and its complications through support of research.
The Cardinal student-athletes took time out on an early Sunday morning to walk with the 57 family teams and also stayed at the event to sign posters and t-shirts.
"It felt really good to be able to take some time to give back to the community," said freshman wide receiver Dylan Monette. "There isnt a better feeling then when you can make someone's day."
JDRF's Walk to Cure Diabetes featured food, entertainment, children's activities, special attractions and other family fun activities. Participants enjoyed a three mile stroll through Veteran's Memorial Park.
"We all enjoyed having them at the event," said event organizer Kathy McBride. "We hope that they will join us again next year."
More than 50 individual families and 850 people total participated in the three mile walk to raise money for Type I Diabetes at the Bay County Community Center, 800 John F. Kennedy Drive in Bay City.
"What an incredible group of young men they are!" exclaimed McBride.
